In 1972, the company began as an outgrowth of a family homebuilding business. In 1973 an opportunity to expand into retail store building created a new direction for the business.  The company ceased home building in 1976 and incorporated in 1981.

In the 1970’s many retail store-building companies expanded into providing nationwide service.  We made the decision to concentrate our activities in the southeast.  Today’s marketplace has recognized the value of using regionalized contractors.  Greater familiarity with a smaller service area and more repeat business with subcontractors produces better service and value to our clients.

In the 1980’s in addition to our primary type of projects, new and renovated stores in regional shopping centers, we started building freestanding single user stores and multi-user buildings.  We also began doing complete exterior renovations to smaller strip centers.  The relationships we nourished with our clients began driving the expansion of our company.

Although our “home market area” includes an area within a 500-mile radius of Central Florida, we are licensed throughout the southeast.  We remain continuously licensed in Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Virginia Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.  In September of 2004 we opened a North Carolina office through acquisition of certain assets and employees of Win & Associates, Inc.

Winkel Construction continues to expand the variety and scope of projects we perform.  We continue building retail stores in regional malls and strip centers as our major emphasis.  We are also placing emphasis on building freestanding stores, as well as exterior renovations for strip or plaza type centers.  The company's growth is being driven by our clients’ confidence in our performance and our ability to remain competitive in today’s market.
